Drea Cofield
Exhibitions:
Drea Cofield is a Brooklyn-based painter whose perceptual practice examines the unstable conditions of looking, using reflection, mediation, and lived observation to collapse the boundary between image and experience. Cofield has exhibited widely, with a current solo exhibition at Kravets Wehby Gallery (NYC), and recent solo shows with Galleri Urbane (Dallas), and Soho Revue (London). Her work has been featured in CULTURED, The Wall Street Journal, WhiteHot Magazine, and Dazed, to name a few. She was awarded an LEA Residency Prize at CAN Art Fair (Spain) in 2026, is a recipient of an Elizabeth Greenshields Grant, and has attended residencies at Yaddo (New York) in 2023 and La Napoule (France) in 2025. Cofield received her B.A. from DePauw University (Greencastle, IN) in 2008 and her M.F.A from Yale School of Art (New Haven, CT), in 2013.

Oil on Cardboard, 7×5”
Cofield’s Selfie Project is a provocative and intimate series that reimagines the digital selfie as a site of painterly inquiry and human connection. By inviting strangers and acquaintances to submit selfies, Cofield transforms ephemeral digital images into luminous oil portraits, shifting the language of self-representation from pixel to brushstroke. The works are often shared on OnlyFans- a platform better known for curated personas- as well as conventional art spaces, complicating the viewer’s expectations of authenticity, authorship, and gaze. At once conceptual and deeply personal, the project resists spectacle in favor of quiet vulnerability, offering a nuanced meditation on how we see ourselves and each other in the digital age.
