Drawings, paintings, sculptural pieces, and animations in this show invite spectators to enter painterly spaces that uniquely explore surface and underpainting. In some cases, a deliberate remembrance of what lies beneath leads to a resurfacing of gestures that highlight movement, the passage of time, or the act of building a composition.

In other cases, a thick covering—impasto or rendering—foregrounds the top skin of the surface. The works range between figures and natural elements, and sway between realism and loose, expressive strokes.
